The Co-operative launches with carbon heroes

8th June 2011

The Co-operative Group has launched a car sharing scheme for its more than 3,000 employees in the Greater Manchester area.

The Group has teamed up with Carbon Heroes which offers a bespoke, secure car sharing services that enables staff find colleagues with whom to share when travelling to and from work or on business.

Car sharing helps reduce demand for car parking, reduces travel expenditure and fits in with The Co-operative’s sustainability agenda.

Amanda Jones, Head of Business Change and Transformation, at the Co-operative said: “We’ve been delighted with the uptake to date, with one pair of employees having shared two thousand miles on their commute to work, saving around five hundred pounds in fuel and parking alone in only four months.”

Craig Barrack, Managing Director of carbon heroes said: “Our service requires that companies embrace a culture of change and actively encourage their employees to share their commute and business journeys when convenient. The Co-operative has been an ideal client for us; the commitment to their staff and to the Sustainability agenda has resulted in a positive message and uptake of the service.”
